Tallahassee Events: Week of October 5th, 2015

By Danielle Wirsansky on October 5, 2015

Now that midterms are winding down and it feels like autumn is finally here, maybe we can all shake our hair loose and take a break if only for a while. Tallahassee has got plenty going on this week, so let’s break it down so you can figure out and plan on attending the event(s) that best fit your interests.

1. “Calendar Girls” at Theatre Tallahassee

A dramedy by Tim Firth, Theatre Tallahassee’s facebook event page describes the play as such:

“When Annie’s husband dies of leukemia, she and her best friend resolve to raise money for a new settee in the waiting room at the local hospital, and dedicate it in his name. Together, they convince four other Women’s Institute members to join them in posing for a nude “alternative” calendar. What starts as a small idea soon snowballs out of control as word spreads and hordes of press descend on their small village.”

The show will run October 8-25, 2015, Thursday – Saturday 8 PM and Sunday’s at 2 PM the first weekend, then Friday – Saturday 8 PM and Sunday at 2 PM.

2. Tallahassee Downtown GetDowns

This event takes place downtown on Adams Street and College Avenue and they happen Friday night before all FSU home football games and FAMU home games on 10/9, 10/16, and 10/30.  As their event page says, “Tallahassee Downtown will provide live entertainment from local and regional acts, there will be local arts and crafts vendors as well as various food trucks, and local charities will provide craft beer and wine for purchase. 100% of alcohol sales will go directly towards supporting the local charity for that event.”

This weekend will be especially fun  with the “FSU vs Miami and FAMU vs North Carolina Central games on Saturday, live music by Flat Land and Sunshine Karate Chop on the DTGD main stage Friday night from 7pm-10pm. Plus all your favorite local vendors, street dancers, DJ’s, bounce house, and charity alcohol vendor from 6pm-10pm.”

There will also be a full size replica of the Dr. Who Tardis time machine that you can get your picture taken with.
