Katekyo Hitman Reborn!: Review

By Grace Zaplatynsky on May 1, 2016

Katekyo Hitman: Reborn!, or Reborn! for short, is an anime published by D-Rights that has a total of nine seasons, or 203 episodes since 2006.

Many people are not familiar with anime or what it is; although, people still watch it. My sisters and I watch it constantly. An anime is a Japanese cartoon, like America’s Simpsons, with different genres including: slice of life, action and adventure, horror and comedy.

The anime, Reborn!, is an action comedy anime about a middle school student, known as Loser Tsuna due to his lack of any skills, who is told that he is the future tenth boss of a very powerful mafia family of the Vongola. Tsuna, voiced by Yukari Kokubun, is thrown into the mafia world when Reborn. Then, Vongola’s best hitman shows up in his house as a tutor for Tsuna. Reborn must teach Tsuna how to survive when numerous enemies show up in his hometown, Namimori, Japan, which threatens his friends, family, and himself. Tsuna must build himself a Mafia Family and protect his hometown with his new found Family.

The show starts slowly as it sets the scene, but gradually gets into the action. The comedy is witty, smart, and continuous throughout the series. Different enemies provide different plot arcs, keeping you on your toes as the show progresses. The characters are well-developed and provide different personalities and points of view over the course of the story. Lastly, one of the most important factors is the art and computer graphics of the anime that are well-done. Since Reborn! is a cartoon, one cannot expect the computer graphics to be like those in Avatar; however, that does not mean they are below par. The fight scenes are drawn and developed well and, the characters are given great flow in their movements as they interact with each other.

Katekyo Hitman: Reborn! is a great entertaining anime. If anime is not for you, then that is okay and you can continue watching Grey’s Anatomy or such. But if you secretly love manga and anime, then Katekyo Hitman: Reborn!, which is out in both forms, is a great choice that you won’t regret. It is funny and will constantly have you on the edge of your seat. The anime can be watched through Crunchyroll or Hulu.
