Sometimes we look around our apartment and just feel like everything is old news. We need a change or we might go crazy. This is especially the case when you are living in an apartment for more than a year. This of course is convenient because you don’t have to deal with the hassle of finding a new place, but you might get bored of your setup and need a little something to help spice it up.

If you know you need a change but aren’t exactly sure how you want to do it, why not let your childhood help you out? Remember all those cartoons we used to watch (and still sometimes watch), and how all the characters had pretty cool bedrooms? They might be able to spark some ideas for you.

Spongebob’s room:

Spongebob’s room is pretty simplistic in terms of the space that is used, but he has a consistent theme of sailing going on, and when you really look, the room is a lot cooler than you might remember. He has a diving board going onto his bed! While you probably won’t get this crazy when it comes to decorating, why not get some sort of outlandish piece, similar to the diving board, that will complete a new theme of yours and that will certainly be a topic of interest for anyone who happens to go into your room? Maybe it’s something weird that your grandma gave you or something that you found on the side of the road, but if it’s a little out there and goes with the new theme you want, then why not try it out?

Keep in mind though, Spongebob can pull off the diving board because his room doesn’t have too much going on. He has the theme of sailing, but it is only made up of his horn alarm clock, the lifesaver behind his bed, and the diving board. If you want to have a standout piece in your room, make sure to balance it by not having too much else going on, or the room might be overpowered.

What also looks fun about his room is that he has a really tall bed. If you are over your current one, why not rent a taller one so you get that Princess and the Pea feeling and get a change in view when you sleep? It’s crazy how much changing your bed can affect the aesthetics of your room.

Clover’s room in “Totally Spies”:

Even though I haven’t watched this show in forever, I’d still be down to have a replica of Clover’s room any day. She has a giant bed that is circular and in the center of her room, and it doesn’t have a bed frame. Having it reside on the carpet gives it a very Urban Outfitter’s feel, which vibes perfectly with a college apartment.

Having a lower bed means you can hang more things like long lights of fuzzy balls from your ceiling and not have the space look too crammed. Sleep is important, so invest in a king-size bed, even if you only are going to use 1/4 of it. It’s great for sleepovers and makes your bed the centerpiece of your room, which it deserves since it is the most important aspect in there.

Powerpuff Girl’s bedroom:

When sharing a room with other people, it can be hard to all coordinate so that the room looks cute as a whole. Some people have wildly different tastes and ideas, so this can be really hard. But if you all are down for a change, why not use the Powerpuff Girl’s room as inspiration?

They have three main colors that take up their space, but it all goes together since there is an equal amount of attention on each color, and they also don’t clutter their room with too much stuff. You can use this as an example when color coding your room, and also when considering which furniture to rent. Maybe you only need one end table and one dresser to share, and to keep the balance of the room. Sharing is caring, and it will give you much needed space.

Sandy’s House from “Spongebob Squarepants”:

Sandy has a nature theme going with her place, which can be some great inspiration if you want to liven your place up. Maybe get a few more end tables of various heights to put plants on? Or a bigger dining room table so you have room for placemats and a vase in the middle? You wouldn’t have to make a lot of changes to add some nature into your living space, but it will make such a difference.

These are just a few ideas to get you started. Inspiration for a new bedroom or living area can be found anywhere, and once you’ve made your decision of how you want to lay it out, start looking into renting furniture to see how you can make your plans a reality.
