What is time management and why is everyone so obsessed with it? Managing your time helps manage your life, thus, time management is crucial.

Time management is the way that we organize our time throughout each and every day. There are only 24 hours in every day — we are not immortal. Therefore, if we want to have a large success rate in accomplishments, we need to manage our time.

Managing your time helps manage your life, not only throughout your education in school and at a university but also in the workplace. Managing your time is also a very attractive and wonderful life skill that will increase your success rate in life.

Prioritizing …

Prioritizing is super important in order to manage your time. Dictionary.com defines prioritize as a verb meaning, “to arrange or do in order of priority” with priority being a noun meaning ranking in order of importance.

Managing your time helps manage your life and therefore, you need to create an order of importance with the things you do. Is it more important to get your paper done or get to level five on your video game? Is it more important to hang out with your friends or do the dishes? It’s your life and therefore your choice on what you do. You simply need to know what’s most important to you.

For example: If I had to choose between getting my paper done or playing video games, I’d do my paper. My grades are more important to me and therefore, I will make time and work on my paper first. If the video game was more important to me then I would make time for that.

Most people use a to-do list in order to list the things they need to do and then rank them in an order of importance.

If you don’t know what is important to you and what you need to get done first, then most likely, you won’t get anything done. Prioritizing helps to manage your time and managing your time helps manage your life.

Procrastination …

One of the problems that comes with time management is procrastination. You have your whole list made up of things to do, you have the day ahead of you and suddenly, you aren’t doing anything of importance but instead you are avoiding the big items on your list. This is procrastination.

Dictionary.com tells us that procrastination is a noun meaning, “the act or habit of procrastinating, or putting off or delaying, especially something requiring immediate attention.”

Education …

Throughout school there are many things that need to be accomplished. Not only are you in school for most of the day but you could also have extra curricular activities such as sports, clubs, and volunteer activities along with homework that need to be accomplished.

Managing your time helps with managing your life. By prioritizing the things you need to do, you are able to rate which activities hold the most importance and what you need to get done first.

In college, time management is very important. College still contains all of the stress of high school and adds other stresses including living on your own and having a job.

You are becoming an adult with added responsibilities and stress. Managing your time helps to relieve that stress and will even add time to your day.

Employment …

One of the number one things that employers look for is good time management. Employers want to know that you are going to get what needs to be done, done in a timely manner. If you have a deadline, you need to be able to make it and with more then just seconds to spare.
