8 Movies To See Before Summer Break Is Over

By Jessi Stickel on July 8, 2016

Going to the movie theater during the fall and spring semesters can be difficult to fit into your busy schedule, so summer break is the perfect time to go to the movies, relax and enjoy yourself. Whether you go with family, friends or your girlfriend/boyfriend, you are bound to have a good time.

Even though every time you see the trailers in the theater you whisper “ooo, I wanna see that!” to the person you’re with, it is hard to keep up with all of the different movies coming to theaters.

Here are eight upcoming movies to see before summer break ends.

The Secret Life of Pets

If you are in the mood for seeing a cartoon film after seeing Finding Dory, The Secret Life of Pets is the movie to see. All pet owners have wondered what their dog, cat, hamster or bird does when they are home alone. Well this film shows what they really do when you are gone, including having puppy parties and jamming out to their favorite songs.

This movie is perfect for the whole family and great for taking out younger siblings, cousins or maybe children you babysit. The Secret Life of Pets came to theaters July 8.

Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates

Need a movie night with the guys or girls? Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates is the perfect movie just for those fun nights out with your closest friends. Mike, played by Pitch Perfect‘s Adam Devine and Dave, played by the oh-so-handsome Zac Efron are brothers in need of dates for their sister’s wedding in Hawaii.

They place an online ad, which goes viral, and lands them with crazy dates Alice, played by Anna Kendrick and Tatiana, played by Aubrey Plaza. The brothers end up going through these girls’ wild shenanigans. This movie is a must-see if you are in the mood to laugh. Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates opened July 8.

Ghostbusters

There could not be a more hilarious cast than Kristen Wigg, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones. These four comedians play characters in the remake of the classic 1984 Ghostbusters film. Based in New York City, McCarthy plays a paranormal researcher, Abby Yates, and Wigg plays a physicist, Erin Gilbert, who are trying to prove that ghosts exist.

The two pair up with McKinnon, playing Jillian Holtzmann, who is an engineer that has the skills to build their special ghost equipment, and Jones, playing Patty Tolan, who knows all the ins and outs of New York. The four ladies take on over 1,000 ghosts that are descending on Times Square.

This film is rated PG-13, so it is great for a night out with the family or parents. Ghostbusters hits theaters July 14.

Jason Bourne

The infamous character Jason Bourne is back. If you are a fan of the previous Bourne movies, such as The Bourne Identify, The Borne Supremacy or The Bourne Ultimatum, then this is probably going to be one of the top movies you see this summer. The Bourne Ultimatum was the last Bourne movie to be released, which was back in 2007, so fans have been waiting for almost 10 years for this new film.

This time, Jason Bourne now remembers who he truly is; however, throughout the film he is trying to uncover hidden truths about his past. Like the previous movies, this one will definitely be full of action and thrill. This is a great movie to see if you want to have a father and son day or night with a few of your buddies. Jason Bourne is coming to theaters July 29.

Bad Moms

Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn are all playing bad mothers this summer. Kunis plays Amy, the “fed up” mom, who has a great husband and children, along with a beautiful home and a successful career, but is overworked and ready to snap. Bell plays Kiki, the “stay at home” mom and Hahn plays Carla, the “single” mom, both stressed-out from their motherly duties.

The three ladies join forces to get away from their daily responsibilities and go wild with their new freedom. They then find themselves in the ultimate showdown with Gwendolyn (Christina Applegate) and her clique of “perfect” moms.

This film seems hilarious and is perfect to go see with your mom, family or friends over summer break. Bad Moms is coming to theaters July 29.

Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad is a team of dangerous, incarcerated super villains, including Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), The Joker (Jared Leto), Caption Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and more. A government agency makes a task force out of the villains, creating the “worst heroes ever” to help save the world.

If you are a fan of DC Comics or just love action movies, this is a great movie to go see with friends or family. Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5.

Sausage Party

Sausage Party is not your average cartoon movie and definitely not for children. Seth Rogen has come up with a twisted story on how your grocery items think. The film brings food to life, which dream about being “chosen” to go home with a shopper. Once they get to the home they think life from then on is going to be great, until they realize they are going to be brutally murdered when humans prepare and eat them.

The film has various recognizable voices such as Kristen Wigg, Paul Rudd, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, Seth Rogen and many more. It is rated R, so don’t make the mistake of bringing your younger family members to see this film, but it looks pretty funny for you and some friends. Sausage Party opens August 12.

War Dogs

War Dogs is based on a true story of two men in their early twenties, David Packouz (Miles Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill), who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to arm Afghanistan. They get themselves in some difficult situations in Iraq.

Hill and Teller being the main characters, this movie has to be hilarious, along with other key actors such as Bradley Cooper. This film is rated R, but is prefect for a fun night out with friends before the fall semester begins. War Dogs hits theaters August 19.
