10 Ways To Make The Beach Better

By Jessi Stickel on July 17, 2016

Summer break is in full swing and college students are heading to the beach with their friends or with their family for the annual summer vacay.

However, some have complaints about the beach, such as the sticky sand, not being able to leave your items unattended or struggling to stay cool in the blistering heat.

Here are 10 ways to make your beach experience better this summer.

1. Sheet sand barrier

One of the worst things about the beach is dealing with the sticky sand. It gets all over pretty much everything and it is almost impossible to get away from it. Even if you lay down a blanket it’s bound to get sand on it either from the wind blowing it on the blanket or the corners sinking under the sand. The perfect solution to this annoying beach problem is using a fitted sheet.

Fitted sheets with coolers and bags holding out the sides will allow you and your family/friends to be clean from the sand. This is especially useful when you are eating and don’t want any extra crunches in your sandwich. It also comes in handy when trying to keep infants sand-free.

2. Use frozen water bottles

Instead of buying or filling your cooler up with ice, freeze some water bottles to keep all your drinks and foods cold. This will save money and time, along with allowing your drinks to stay cold all day long. This way you will have a cold bottle of water at the end of your day at the beach.

3. Plastic jars for phone storage

Using old jars, such as a plastic peanut butter jar, as storage for your phone, car keys or money will allow you to keep them safe, dry and sand-free. You can also bury the jar under your beach blanket or towel if you are going in the water and leaving your items unattended to be sure nothing is stolen or lost.

4. Baby powder sand removal

Many people have to drive to the beach, which means they will have to get back in their car being covered in sand. This can not only ruin the inside of your car, but also be super uncomfortable. Using baby powder on your skin will dry up the excess moisture in the sand and allow the sand to brush right off of your body. This will save the hassle of vacuuming your car out also.

5. Ziplock baggie phone protector

Even though you are trying to enjoy the outdoors, disconnect from your problems and relax, you may want to check your phone or even play music off it while you are on the beach. However, sand and water can easily ruin your phone by getting in the small crevices. Using plastic bags can keep your phone safe and allow you to use your phone through the bag. This way you can use your phone on the beach worry-free.

6. Hide belongings in empty sunscreen container

You never know who could try to steal your money, keys or electronics while you and family/friends are having fun in the water or taking a walk down the beach. You can hide all of these items in an empty sunscreen bottle. It is much less likely to get stolen when it is in a disguised carrier such as a sunscreen bottle.

7. Beach towel chair clips

The beach can be windy and sometimes your beach towel just will not stay on your chair, which can get it sandy. Using beach towel chair clips (also called Boca clips) can ensure your towel will not blow on the ground and stay in place. You will no longer have to keep adjusting your towel to cover your chair on the beach.

8. Sand cup holder

Of course you have to take a cold drink to stay hydrated at the beach; however, it is very annoying when half your drink gets sand around it when you have to set it down in the sand. Using sand cupholders (also called beach spikers) can keep your drink sand-free off the ground and also secure it from accidentally falling over and possibly spilling. You can also put other items in them, like sunscreen, sunglasses or your cell phone.

9. Bluetooth wireless speaker

If you are spending the whole day at the beach, it is nice to have some background music to listen to. Radios can be hefty and those long commercials can really ruin the vibe, but bluetooth speakers can be fairly small and you can listen to whatever music you like. You can stream Pandora or Spotify or just listen to the music downloaded on your phone. Having good music on the beach can just make the day more fun for you and your family/friends.

10. Beach tent

On those extra hot and humid days, sitting in the hot sun all day can seem miserable. Bringing your own umbrella can be heavy to carry through the sand and it is sometimes difficult to secure it into the sand. Beach tents are the new umbrellas; they give you more shade and you don’t have the hassle of digging the umbrella into the sand. These make the beach bearable when it is extremely hot out and can fit several beach chairs under it. You, and your family/friends will be able to stay cool and comfortable all day long.
