Some eat in order to live. Others live to eat. No matter who you are or what you do, you need to eat. Whether you are a college student, already in the workforce, or have enough money to sustain your life without working, you need to eat.
Everyone has a spot where they like to eat. This can range from a breezy cafe table outside of a university student center to a cozy corner in bed cuddling a bag of chips and an Arnold Palmer.
For some at Rutgers University – New Brunswick, this was Au Bon Pain located on College Avenue. At this convenient location, students and other people passing through could grab a quick snack and a drink.
The location is smart because college students with a lack of sleep and a caffeine addiction who are in need of a cup of coffee since they are running late and still have to take the bus to make it to the next campus over could get their fix in a jiff.
Unfortunately for these people, this location was shut down before the Spring 2017 semester began. This could be attributed to the opening of the new Starbucks location right down College Ave. across the street from Scott Hall. Along with this newly opened Starbucks, in the Fall 2016 semester, a Starbucks food truck appeared about 50 yards away right outside of Alexander Library.
For the past few weeks, however, the Starbucks located by Scott Hall was shut down for reasons unknown. Talk about an inconvenience. They shut down a cheap coffee shop, replace it with a classier one, and then shut that down.
The situation the past week or so has been different since the Starbucks reopened. The Starbucks truck by Alexander Library is clutch since it is close to a major bus stop and the library although it is only open for a certain number of hours on certain days of the week.
Recently there have been rumors that Rutgers University has been in negotiations with corporate food giant, Panera Bread. Many students would prefer a Panera over Au Bon Pain. At the moment, though, it is an excellent location going to a gigantic waste.
There is one thing that coffee loving college students learn very early on and it is that one can never have enough convenient coffee spots. You never know when your body is going to suddenly feel drained and at which point your body will go into a shock in which the only cure is a hot cup of caffeine.
