|School:||University of Denver|
Pros: Participation 20% of grade
Map quiz 20% of grade (rough)
Term paper is a movie paper
Cons: Hard grader
Can take a while to grade papers
Exams are essays
Can be a bit dry but you learn a lot. Very little about ancient Ireland.
Has a tendency to take longer than two weeks to grade papers.
Very hard grader.
-lectures are always interesting and fun to listen to
-she obviously loves history and makes a genuine effort to get her students to love it as well
-tests are really not as hard as they initially seemed like they would be and she allows one sheet of 8 x 11 paper for notes
-talks pretty fast
-i would definitely recommend taking notes with a computer because i tried pen and paper at first and ended up having to cross out or rearrange a lot of things
Pros: Very enthusiastic
Cons: She is a very fast talker and tends to rant about things. She goes off on tangents about the most irritating and unimportant things. I have only been in her class a month and severely regret taking it already .
Pros: Extremely Knowledgeable
Very funny and sarcastic
Lenient on assignments
Shows a bunch of video and primary sources
Girl Scout Cookies!
Cons: Lectures can be draining
Too many movies!
Overall, I really enjoyed Krieder. My class was 75 minutes long, and started at 3:30pm, but even so I managed to show up because the teacher was great! She does have mandatory attendance, but you can get some excused absences, and she will sometimes forget to take it. She can get really carried away in the lectures sometimes. She once said she would only talk for 10 minutes, and then show some video, but she ended up talking the whole class time. She also does not follow her syllabus whatsoever, so be prepared for that. It worked out for our class, because she ended up canceling two major assignments.
I would highly recommend this teacher. For as boring as history can be, especially in this class with the time period and all, Krieder made it humorous and interesting.
Pros: Enthusiastic and Friendly
Cons: Handed back midterms a week before finals, does not do a good job of teaching, rambling lectures, boring.
Avoid this class if you can. I took it because it fulfilled part of my Italian Studies minor (I am not sure how, we talked about Italy about two times), and was greatly disappointed in the class. As a history major, it takes a lot for me to be bored during a lecture, but all she ever did was talk the whole class or occasionally show videos. She was never on track with the syllabus, and it took forever for her to grade anything. If you need an upper division history course in Europe, there are far better choices than this class.
Pros: Great professor who is very knowledgeable about the course content.
Term paper was on a movie and a book from the class period. She is very helpful in office hours.
Cons: Reading load is very heavy.
Do the reading and talk in class. She notices.
This is a fantastic class, very easy and she is funny. She doesn't keep up on grades, I never knew an exact letter grade until the day final grades were posted after the end of the semester. But it's worth the frustration of that to still take her class, because you won't do bad...It really is easy!
Pros: Tests are easy, but require preparation
Cons: She talks fast, notes are not posted online
Have to read A LOT
Pros: Enthusiastic, good at lecturing
Cons: Talks too fast, grades too hard, material on tests isn't covered in class, map quizzes are too hard
She is a good lecturer but she talks way too fast for you to write down everything so there will be a lot of gaps in your notes and you don't get enough information to study for the tests unless you google everything. You never use the textbooks you buy except the world atlas for the map quizzes which aren't even about geography, they ask detailed inference questions that you don't actually learn in class. You also have to read 3 classic literature novels, like "A Christmas Carol" for some reason in this history class, which you then have to relate to history with all the knowledge that you never learned in class because she never talks about it. Her notes are all very vague that she puts on the overhead, and don't make much sense. I would highly advise against anyone taking this class.
Pros: - Great Lecturer
- Chooses interesting material
This has been my absolute favorite history class so far, Dr. Kreider made the material easy to follow and I looked forward to going to class. Anyone who needs an upper division history... TAKE THIS!!! Simply awesome.
Pros: Enthusiastic Professor
3 easy map quizzes
Outlines notes (but doesn't post the outline)
Cons: Strict about attendance
Dr. Krieder is extremely enthusiastic about the subject, she uses various amount of teaching techniques, of which she presents great pictures and videos (of which their contents are fair game for her exams). She's extremely helpful when you visit her during her office hours, not that you wouldn't understand the material (pretty simple, goes through absolutism through the french revolution and the industrial revolution to WWII).
Gives you what you need to know
Cons: Her TA Barbara was the worst and graded this like a 400 level class
Pros: Fun Classes
Cons: Talks Fast
Dr. Kreider is a good professor, her quizzes and tests can be on the more difficult side, but she lets you know what they are going to be on before she gives them. This professor does not do multiple choice testing. Her tests consist of two take home essay questions that must be 2 pages, and five in-class paragraphs about a specific thing. Overall this is a fun class, and she makes it worthwile to go. She is very understanding and willing to help if you need it.
I have her now for an accelerated history class offered mid semester to engineering majors. She has to be one of my favorite teachers. She is very funny and I appreciate so much that she is altering the class towards the minds of engineers. I never really liked history but she makes it interesting. The map quizzes are easy and the mid term that I was worried about wasn't too hard as well. The lectures can get boring but I think it's just the subject and since it's accelerated for me it's a 2 hour class. I would love to take her for Hist100 but she is not teaching it next semester. Only negative is that she takes a long time to grade and hand things back but not a big deal for me.
Pros: Odd sense of humor, knows subject extremely well and has a passion for what she is teaching
Cons: NEVER POSTS GRADES
Doesn't follow syllabus for quizzes or reading assignments, to truly know the schedule you have to physically to go to class. frustrating.
I actually had her for HIST 100 but she doesn't have that course listed on koofers. I am not a fan of history, that being said Kreider is one of the better history teachers at CSU.
Pros: funny, knows her history, makes class interesting, passionate about her teaching
Cons: little disorganized
I took Dr. Kreider's Modern Western Civ class and loved it. She's a very understanding, great professor. I learned so much in her class and enjoyed going. I would definitely take another one of Dr. Kreider's classes. The one downfall is that it takes her a while to grade tests but she gives extra credit!
LOVED this class and the professor. Dr. Kreider is very very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her subject and makes lecture interesting and engaging. She is always respectful of student opinions and ideas and encourages conversation in class. The course involves a lot of reading but I found most of the books and articles to be interesting. There are also easy map quizzes and papers instead of tests. Overall it was a great class and Dr. Kreider is an awesome professor with a fun personality, I would definitely recommend taking a class with her.
Pros: She gives map quizzes that are very very easy
She knows history very wel and is funny to listen to
Cons: she does not post grades at all through the entire semester and doesnt hand back any graded assignments
she is a very hard grader on the essay midterm
Her class is interesting but she does not follow the syllabus at all! There were suppose to be 3 map quizzes which are easy and they are suppose to be worth 100 points each but the semester is almost done and she has only given 1 60 point map quiz. There is literally no way to find out your grade she basically says what you get on the essay midterm is what you get on the class but she grades essays very very hard. She has not handed back more than 1 assignment and its only 3 weeks till finals. She told us that participation is a big part of our grade but there is no way you can participate in class. She also said she keeps track of who participates in class "in her head". I do not recommend this teacher she is very bad about keeping track of points and getting assignments back. I literally have no idea what i have in the class and its only 3 weeks till finals!!
Pros: Really enthusiastic about her subject.
Cons: Assignments are turned back very late.
Kreider is one of the coolest teachers iv ever had. She presents the material very well, mainly lectures but she makes them funny, adding her own comical commentary. Make sure you do the reserve readings by john keegan, they may seem useless but they come in very handy on the final essay. If you like history, definately shoot for getting her
