By Brittany Loeffler on April 16, 2017

There is no doubt that music brings people together and helps make fantastic memories. With the weather starting to warm up and the end of the semester coming, music festivals will be popping up soon — each one with a different vibe and atmosphere, but all sharing something in common: music.

Located in the Colorado Desert, Coachella is known for attracting celebrities and massive amounts of people. With a killer line-up, festival-goers can experience two weekends of music. With a chill and relaxing atmosphere, guests can admire large pieces of artwork, lay in the fields of grass, and get lost in the palm trees and mountains in the background.

This year festival-goers will be able to see Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Dillon Francis, Lorde, Radiohead, and much more.

Set on the same grounds as the famous Woodstock concert, Mysteryland is a place for EDM lovers and psychedelic fanatics. Camp on the grounds where your parents may have been in the 1970s and experience amazing light shows and large structures that light up with neon colors at night. People from all over the world come to experience the lights, friendships, and music of Mysteryland.

This year’s headliners include Major Lazor, RL Grime, G-Eazy, Big Gigantic, and Porter Robinson.

Governor’s Ball

New York, New York

June 2–June 4

This music festival, set in the Big Apple, has a different atmosphere than the previously mentioned festivals. There is no camping involved, which some festivalgoers may miss, but that doesn’t mean the music and event are not great! With an overwhelming amount of rock and alternative artists, there is some hip hop and EDM mixed in with the lineup. It is a festival focused on a certain kind of group of music lovers.

This year’s lineup includes Chance the Rapper, Lorde, Flume, Banks, and Cage the Elephant.

Multiple Locations

Multiple Dates

This traveling music festival can be found all over America, which is convenient because the festival comes to you instead of the other way around. Step back into your Converse sneakers and pink haired days of middle school and early high school with these alternative punk bands with angsty lyrics.

The lineup includes Watsky, New Years Day, Hawthorne Heights, and more.

Held in America’s founding city, Jay-Z moved the once LA-based music festival to the east coast where it is thrown on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway each year with the beautiful Philadelphia Museum of Art featured in the background. With a star-studded lineup, festival-goers can experience the city of Philadelphia while enjoying music with their fellow Philadelphians and music lovers.

Burning Man

Black Rock Desert, Nevada

August 27-September 4

Think Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and you’ll have an idea of what the Burning Man festival is. It is more than just a music festival located in the desert; it is a gathering place for artists, art lovers, people lovers, and people with positive auras.

Though this festival does not have a lineup of musical acts, it encompasses many different art forms, which may include music. It is more of a community of artists that create and trade with each other; whether it is a story or a piece of handmade jewelry, it is a festival of people and art.
