A Peek Inside the Ivy: Beware of these Ivy League boys and does Cornell have a racism problem?
Ivy League students are just like you. Except, you know, they go to an Ivy League school.
Harvard hinders heckling before DeVos speech
College is the place where free speech thrives, right?
The Washington Post reports, “Education Secretary Betsy DeVos spoke at Harvard University on Thursday evening about school choice and was introduced by an academic dean who issued a warning: Heckle the secretary or anyone else, and you will be escorted out by Harvard security.”
According to the Harvard Crimson, however, not everyone heeded the warning.
“She faced repeated interruptions. With shouts from the hundreds-strong crowd outside—’Education is a right, not just for the rich and white!’—echoing in the brightly lit John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum, protesters in the audience periodically stood and silently unveiled large posters.”
The dangerous world of the Ivy League F**kboy
A post on The Tab at Columbia University this week warned of the dangers of all different kinds of men roaming around the campuses of Ivy — and how to recognize them.
Helpfully breaking them down into easy-to-spot groups like The Finance Bro, The International Student With An Apartment Downtown and The Sad Artist, defining characteristics are folded into this handy guide.
Here’s the breakdown on The Pseudo Intellectual:
When asked if he’s been in a relationship before, he’ll tell that he’s a free-spirited dissentient who doesn’t conform to the restrictive labels that society places on romance. What he doesn’t tell you is that he’s still a virgin. In his free time, he enjoys ranting about Greek love and shopping for messenger bags.
What he’s reading: The Sparknotes page for The Nicomachean Ethics.
What he listens to: Sufjan Stevens.
What he texts you: “Hey I know it’s late, but do you want to come over and talk about Plato with me?”
Students and faculty at Cornell take a knee in protest
Several hundred students and faculty took a knee at Cornell during the lunch hour Wednesday to protest racism.
The Ithaca Voice reports the protest “was modeled after the national protest occurring currently within the NFL after many players have decided to take a knee during the national anthem during games since last Sunday. The form of non-violent protest followed the lead of NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who initially began taking a knee during the national anthem as a way to protest the oppression of black Americans and police brutality directed toward black Americans.”
The protest follows a spate of racial incidents at Cornell over the past few semesters.
Apparently freshmen at Dartmouth get a free trip #jealous
