For those with artistic leanings, the Denver Art Museum will make for an exciting afternoon. This beautiful, recently renovated building is home to a plethora of exhibitions, including pieces from the museum’s permanent collection as well as traveling displays. Admission is free on the first Saturday of every month. The cost for college students who are Colorado residents is $8; non-resident college students pay $10. The museum is easily accessible by Light Rail, and is located on 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway.

If you prefer your leisure time to be slightly more fast-paced, a Colorado Rockies baseball game may be the choice for you! Coors Field is located in the heart of Lower Downtown (known simply to locals as LoDo), and can also be accessed via the Light Rail. Tickets for these spirited games can be pricey, but for those on tighter budgets, the Rockpile is for you! The Rockpile consists of bleachers in the outfield that will only set you back $4 per seat. Tickets can be purchased at any King Soopers location, or online at

Want to get off campus and enjoy the great outdoors just a little bit, but not drive all the way into the mountains? Take a walk to Washington Park, more commonly referred to as Wash Park and enjoy the beautiful scenery. When the weather is warm, many students like to enjoy the sun at this seemingly scenic location. There is a large walkway around the park that makes a great walking, running or biking loop for the more athletic types.

Are you someone who refuses to set foot inside Starbucks, instead engaging in a perpetual search for independently owned coffee establishments? Stella’s Coffeehaus is a short walk from most locations on the DU campus. Located on 1476 South Pearl Street, nestled between a variety of shops and restaurants, this cozy coffeeshop is perfect for conversations with friends, studying, or both. Open until 11 PM on weeknights and midnight on Friday and Saturday, Stella’s is a Denver fixture that is dearly loved by DU students.

16th Street Mall, located on the mile-long street of the same name in the heart of downtown, is enjoyable to visit whether one is a tourist or a seasoned Denver native. It doesn’t matter whether you’re in the mood for eating, shopping, strolling, or all three – just hop on the Light Rail and get ready for a fantastic day!
