Middlebury School in Japan
The Middlebury School in Japan offers cultural and linguistic immersion through a rigorous curriculum and adherence to the Middlebury Language Pledge. By pledging to speak only the target language abroad, students have the best chance of acquiring fluency and actively engaging in the local environment. In Japan, all participants take language, cultural reflection, community engagement courses, and content courses alongside Japanese students at International Christian University, a non-denominational university known for its superior language instruction. Students will stay in on-campus housing and have plenty of opportunities to interact with Japanese students.
Because of the school's suburban location in Japanin the Mitaka neighborhood, 30 minutes west of Tokyoits students benefit from the advantages and opportunities of Tokyo while living and studying in a more campus-like environment.
The program combines coursework, extracurricular activities, and volunteer and internship work to enable students to "live the language."
